When in Rome-Dr Rowan Williams

Dr Rowan Williams

Dr Rowan WilliamsDr Rowan WiliamsNot a day goes by without some mention of the recent comments of the current Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, and his view that Islamic law will eventually be recognized in Britain.
If Dr Williams did actually say this, and there is some small doubt about this, then he needs to put his hands up and admit he has made a huge error of judgment.
Before going any further perhaps he would be wiser to stick more closely to what he should be doing and stop meddling in matters which do not concern him i.e. “Politics”.
Recently, I have been reading about Sharia law as practiced by the Saudi’s. It is extremely barbaric and firmly stuck in the Middle Ages.
I have just read an article in the Times describing how “Sandy Mitchell”, a Briton was condemned to death in Saudi Arabia on trumped-up charges. It revealed that he was sentenced to partial beheading and then crucifixion.  He was told by his Saudi lawyer that the sentence called for the victim’s head to be “partially” severed and the body fixed to an X-shaped cross in public view for three days. Mitchell was one of six Britons arrested in Riyadh after a series of bomb attacks on westerners three years ago.
They were released last month after interventions by the British government and the Prince of Wales.
Speaking for the first time since his release, Mitchell, 44, said yesterday that he was tortured into confessing crimes that he had not committed. Mitchell said he was forced to stand for nine days, chained with his hands above his head and prevented from sleeping. Each night he was tethered hand and foot and suspended with a metal bar behind his legs to expose his buttocks and the soles of his feet. He was beaten with an axe handle until he gave the “right” answer.

Is this the sort of barbaric law and punishment we want to see in Britain?
I know this is an extreme example but the general public should be made aware of what could happen if Sharia law was allowed to be practiced here and its sentences carried out.
At the moment both Jews and Muslims are able to seek justice through their own religious courts but at all times British law takes precedent.

There seems to be one law for the rich and one law for the poor. Now Dr Williams wants to add Sharia Law as well. This is yet another nail in the coffin for the British people who have had to suffer a dilution of essential services.
The quality and availability of the Health Service, Education, Law and Order, Transport and Policing in this country at the hands of New Labour for the last ten years have all been diminished.
The cost of living is rising several times faster than the “official rate of inflation”.
What is wrong with the saying “When in Rome do as the Romans”?
If we emigrated to another country we would be expected to fit into their society and would not be allowed to take it over.
There is no way in a million years that another country would tolerate a dilution of its identity and the adoption of foreign ideals and institutions. Yet this is what is being done and proposed in Britain.
Political correctness is out of control and it’s time to put an end to the “Human Rights Act”.
Let’s get out of Europe and once again stand tall and be counted on the world stage. I can’t see it happening in my life time if ever at all.
Too much damage has already been done by Tony Blair and the Labour government.
Unfortunately, and sadly Britain is a shadow of its former self.
Is it no wonder that more Britons are leaving the country than people coming to live here?

If this trend continues and there is no reason for it to slow down or stop without a major sea change then the Archbishop of Canterbury will have been proven right.
