5000 Morris Dancers Weekend

Pop artist David Owen brings a Morris-inspired large-scale installation to Southbank Centre, highlighting his irreverent and humorous re-imaginings of established folk and pop icons and challenging current image of the Morris dancer in English culture. The installation is complemented by a weekend celebrating the best in folk and Morris dance including live music, film and of course dance.

Morris Dancing on Queens Walk

One hundred of the finest morris dancers from across England assemble over two days for one of the largest gatherings of morris dancers in London.

Featuring Hammersmith Morris Men, Mortimer’s Morris (Nottingham), Pecsaetan Morris (Sunday only), Boggart’s Breakfast, Eynsham Morris (Saturday only), Stone Monkey Sword Dancers, Moss Brothers and Gog Magog Molly.

Way Of The Morris

Here are some examples of our recent work

For JAC Travel Group, we supplied 22 taxis to transport 108 tourists from Harrods to Madame Tussauds. We also supplied a Taxi Marshal who kept everything under control.

This lovely and lively bunch of Hungarian tourists wanted to experience a ride in a London Black Taxi! Russ, our Chief Taxi Marshal, met the travel agent and her group at a prearranged location outside of Harrods where they had been shopping in true London style. Russ assisted everyone into their waiting taxis and off they went to see Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse at Madame Tussauds London.

For Bath Travel, we supplied 3 taxis to transport their clients from Victoria Rail Station (where they had just alighted from the famed Orient Express). Members of this group were going to three different destinations: some to London Heathrow Terminal 1, some to London Heathrow Terminal 5, and some back to their home in Surrey. No problem–we will go wherever your clients need to go.

We were delighted and very proud to be asked by the Cluster Munition Coalition to provide transportation for Branislav Kapetanovic recently. We provided taxi services to and from Heathrow Airport and to various destinations where Bransislav gave talks about his experiences and about the Cluster Munition Coalition.

Branislav Kapetanovic (born 1965) lost both hands and feet when a BLU 97 submunition exploded when he was going to destroy it at an airstrip in Serbia November 9, 2000. Branislav was a deminer working for the Army and cleared thousands of submunitions after the NATO bombing before one of them finally exploded. His greatest wish now is to see cluster munitions banned, and he is now active in the Cluster Munition Coalition.

“Cluster bombs present a greater danger for the civilian population than for the Army or “enemy” installations, they affect wide areas and continue to affect them for many, many years; I don’t expect anybody to be surprised by what happened to me – it was my duty, my job, but the majority of the people in the world being injured by these bombs are innocent civilians, a large percentage of them unknowing children.”

The Cluster Munition Coalition is an international civil society campaign working to eradicate cluster munitions, prevent further casualties from these weapons and put an end for all time to the suffering they cause. The Coalition works through its members to change the policy and practice of governments and organisations towards these aims and raise awareness of the problem amongst the public.

On 1 August, Cluster Munition Coalition (CMC) members worldwide took part in coordinated campaign actions to celebrate the historic milestone presented by the entry into force (EIF) of the Convention on Cluster Munitions. Globally, events and actions were built around the slogan, “Beat the drum to ban cluster bombs!”

The Convention on Cluster Munitions – the most significant disarmament and humanitarian treaty since the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty – enters into force and becomes fully legally binding on 1 August 2010. From that date forward, states parties must implement all of the treaty’s lifesaving obligations.

We were recently involved organising a two hour, two taxi  “Treasure Hunt” for a Hen party based on the world popular board game Monopoly. All the the games features were incorporated into the “Treasure Hunt” including the Community Chest, streets like Park Lane, Regent street, Leicester Square, Coventry Street, Piccadilly, right through to Old Kent Road and many more were involved. There were lots of questions and challengers based on the games format and great fun and hysterics were had by all concerened…see picture above. London Taxi Cabs was pleased and very proud to be asked to supply licensed London taxi marshals for an event taking place on Wednesday 12th May at The Victoria and Albert Museum.

There were over 250 guests present, each requiring a taxi after the event. As part of the service, our Taxi Share Scheme enabled the Marshals to place up to 5 or 6 passengers in the same taxi, thus reducing waiting times and allowing the passengers to share the fare.

Even though guests were heading out in all directions–some home, some to restaurants for late suppers–our experienced Marshals organised everthing smoothly. Everything went like clockwork with no one waiting longer than two minutes for their taxi.
